Immediately: A pregnant woman should usually get tested for HIV as soon as she finds out she is pregnant and seeks prenatal care. If she does not seek any prenatal care prior to delivery, an HIV test will likely be offered at the time of delivery to ensure that the mother does not have hiv. If the mother is positive, then she will get the option of treatment of HIV during/after delivery to reduce risk to baby.
