Expected: To develop a middle ear infection you retain mucous behind the ear drum which becomes food for the germs that cause the infection. The mucous muffles hearing in what should be an air filled space. The mucous/muffling may remain for days/weeks after the germs are killed by antibiotics. Normal hearing should return gradually but may take a while.
