Breathing tube: Most likely during the surgery you had a breathing tube placed while you were asleep. This tube comes in a few forms and could cause some irritation of the throat. Usually this is short lived and some over the counter remedies that you have no described can help. This can predispose you for infection, if it is not getting better I would consider getting an exam or antibiotics to be safe.
