Were you checked : for strep or mono? If you have a significantly sore throat w swollen tonsils / lymph nodes – see your medical provider & get a streph throat test & culture. Saltwater gargles are very helpful. Mix a teaspoon of salt in 8 oz of warm water – gargle with this several times a day. You can gargle with Aloe Vera juice a couple of times per day. A mixture of chamomile tea with honey & lemon.

More than a virus?: If your sore throat has persisted and is worse on one side, you may have something other than just a viral sore throat. If there is swelling on one side or your uvula (punching bag in back of throat) is off to one side, you may need a CT to rule out a peritonsillar abscess. I would recommend seeing your doctor or returning to the ER if you aren't improving.
