Rest and patience: A metatarsal fracture will take 8-12 weeks to heal like most bones in the body. Initially, reduced weight-bearing, ice and elevation for the first couple weeks helps reduce pain and start the healing process. Progress of healing should be monitored by your orthopedic surgeon with x-rays. Some require surgery if healing doesn't progress as expected. Increase calcium intake to 2 gm/daily x 2 mon.

QUESTIONS: I would need to know when it happened, is it aligned or displaced, did you see a doctor, did the doctor put you on crutches, and if so, are you using the crutches? Finally, if you smoke...STOP! Bone normally heals around the six-week mark, if properly cared for. Dr. Latva
