Neck pains: Shooting, sharp neck pains are usually related to pinching of nerves by spurs or disc disorders in the neck vertebrae. Another cause is excessive tension in the muscles of the neck although you don't have chronic neck tightness or limitation of motion. If symptoms worsen a neurologist is best to evaluate and advise you about imaging tests and physical therapy and/or soft neck braces.
