A member asked:

When i had bacteremia, the blood cultures also showed my blood volume was low. did the infection itself affect the volume? confused

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Quite confusing...: Blood culture tests provide no information on whether a patient's blood volume is high, low, or normal. When it happens, low blood volume is reflected in a patient's symptoms and the course of her illness. Her various blood test results (not the blood culture) can suggest that blood volume was recently lowered due to her symptoms, but there is not a simple "blood volume lab test".
