Fever/diarrhea: It could be viral or bacterial. If there is blood in the stool, concerns for dehydration or persistent fever have your baby checked. All the best.

EITHER: Height of fever does not accurately predict bacterial versus viral when it comes to diarrheal illness. Most diarrhea is viral in origin. Blood in the diarrhea may more accurately indicate bacterial, but you still need to culture to know for sure. Either way, important to keep hydrated abd start getting nutrition back into your diet. Avoid large amounts of lactose.

Either one: Stool culture is needed to identify the bacterial pathogens.
