Diaphragm: A,weak diaphragm is usually elevated(paralyzed) and encroaches upon the chest cavity and may impact lung function. Another type of weakness leads to part of the stomach protruding into the chest cavity(hiatal hernia) which can lead to reflux of stomach contents upwards into the esophagus and back of the throat. Massive hiatal hernias also can impact lung function. These be seen on a chest xray.
