Different antibiotic: and one has a steroid- Neomycin/ polymyxin B/ dexamethasone ophthalmic or Maxitrol (dexamethasone neomycin and polymyxin) and has good coverage for certain common bacteria (Gram positive) will work for both "pink" eye and allergic conjunctivitis. Gatifloxacin (old Zymar) has good and broader coverage for both gram positive and gram negative bacteria and will not help for allergies.
