Narrowing of bowel: Colitis means inflammation of the colon and may be due to infections or other causes e. g inflammatory bowel disease- IBD ( Crohn's disease or ulcerative colitis .Acute infections colitis usually resolves without any long term effects. IBD can result in bowel narrowing or may need operation to remove part of bowel if severe. However most of the time IBD can be well controlled with meds

If you: are referring to Ulcerative Colitis, there are a number of possible complications including but not limited to arthritis, anemia, psoriasis, (all a "genetic HLA chromosome association) and the most serious, Cancer of the Colon. PROPER SCREENING and TREATMENT is available for ALL THESE UC ISSUES!. There are a # of types of COLITIS and the absolute Diagnosis is VITAL! Hope this helps! Dr Z
