Inotropic Effects: That is an excellent question.Beta blockers are have negative inotropic activity (strength of contraction) because they block positive inotropes (epinephrine and norepinephrine) that increase cardiac contractility at Beta Adrenergic Receptors, hence the name. Beta blockers also affect chronotropic activity (heart rate). They do not block contractility related to the Frank-Starling Law of the Heart
