That's odd.: The streptococcus subtype that they usually look for in the throat is group A or strep pyrogenes. That's the one that if untreated sometimes leads to rheumatic fever or rheumatic heart disease. The group B variety is sometimes found in mother's vaginas just prior to delivery and if she is giving birth by the vaginal route the newborn can contract either respiratory distress syndrome or meningitis.
