Not affect but cause: I think the question should be where does vertigo come from? Either from the ear(much more common, from the vestibular center, can't see on mri, too small) or the brain(less common, an MRI would pick up the cause). If the vertigo is related by body position changes this is most likely coming from the ear. Vertigo classically means 'spinnning' but could be just a sense of imbalance, as on ship.
