A member asked:

Myfather is 55 years old firsthand smoker.his blood test with 56 ug iron confirmed with low .how much which dosage iron supplement should he take?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Why low?: An adult male should not be low in iron unless there is some hidden bleeding going on. It would be prudent to see a doctor to ascertain the cause of his low iron and correct that cause. You could raise his iron level by giving him oral iron supplement but that may just cover up a serious underlying disorder.
