Typically diet: Gestational diabetes occurs as the pregnancy progresses and hormones are made by the placenta that increase Insulin resistance. This can be managed by diet and/or medication (i.e.Insulin or oral hypoglycemic agents). The diet is typically discussed with a diabetic educator.

Be responsible : Gestational diabetes is a condition that is specific to pregnancy meaning that it will probably go away after you deliver. As long as you stick to your diabetic diet and monitor your blood sugar often you will be fine. Some women will need Insulin as well, but again, it will likely not be necessary after delivery. Make sure you see your doctor regularly.
