My daughter is abroad for a semester. she just told me she's had a hard flat lump under the skin on the bottom of her foot for about 4 months now. it doesn't hurt. she said it's not quite the size of a quarter and it's near her heel. what could it be?

Plantar wart: It probably is a plantar wart. She could do warm soaks of the foot and apply an OTC topical for now & have it checked by your family physician when she returns.
