Be alert: Breakthrough bleeding on Depotprovera can happen and it can happen to a considerable extent. Checking hemoglobin levels now and in 12 weeks may tell, if the breakthrough bleeding is causing the hemoglobin to drop.

Doubtful: A common side-effect of Depo-Provera is unpredictable periods. The good news is that this usually resolves after you've had several injections. In fact, a high percentage of women on Depo-Provera won't have periods at all after 1 year of use. The bleeding would have to be very heavy to cause anemia. (Think 2 pads or tampons an hour for days and days). Best wishes!
