Gastroenteritis: Viral gastroenteritis usually last for about a week. Further evaluation might be needed if diarrhea lasts over a week. Warning signs include: fever, significant abdominal pain, blood or pus in stools, >6 stools/day. Stool studies would be part of the evaluation.
