A member asked:

My boyfriend took antidepressants for 6 years we been trying for 9 months does that damage your sperm count?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possible, not likely: It is possible that SSRi antidepressants can prevent orgasms which would prevent delivery of sperm. This is more likely than directly causing low sperm count which I suppose is possible but I haven't seen any credible research supporting that theory. Stopping this antidepressant should normalize any such effect in 6 weeks although this should be discussed with the treating psychiatrist.
