Treat Gerd, Holter: Gerd should be treated. Best not to eat a few hours before lying down to sleep. Palpitations should be evaluated with a simple Holter monitor which can monitor the regularity of your heart beat for 1-3 days. Palpitations are not necessarily a concern, but should be evaluated. One problem is that Heart Disease can be confused with GERD, and so evaluation is necessary.

Common.: The esophagus and heart are connected through common nerves. Some of what you feel may be esophageal in nature although you may also have some pauses or "extra" beats if the esophagus is stimulated enough. In any case this sensation is pretty common and benign. It may indicate that your GERD is undertreated.
