Yes, it could be: Assuming the white discharge came from the nipple, the short answer is yes, it could be an infection of the breast or milk-producing tissue. Breast discharge when you're not recently or currently pregnant (later in pregnancy) or breast-feeding is abnormal especially with pain. Cross-country runners can be an exception to this. I would have this evaluated by a primary care doctor.
