A member asked:

Is it possible for arthritis to be autoimmune related if cbc is usually normal and esr never > 5 in a pt. with history of ana 1:1280 and pos.ssa?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Autoimmune: That's a good question. Test results can be frustrating and may require interpretation by a specialist in Rheumatology. In general a positive ANA with SSA can certainly be a form of autoimmune arthritis but does't always mean you have disease unless you have a certain set of symptoms that match. The ESR level parallels disease activity.
