A member asked:

I took an at home uti test that came up highly postive for leukocytes and negative for nitrates. could this be an std instead of a uti?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hard to say: The quality of any test result is influenced by many factors.Collection technique is important. Women who squat and pee in a cup get the equivalent of a vaginal washout, including random debris like white cells.Males with a redundant foreskin can get similar debris. There are also some germs that can cause UTI's that don't make nitrite. There are limits to self diagnosis.
