Progress slowly: It's a little unusual in the US to undergo open inguinal surgery these days without mesh and the chances of a recurrent hernia are higher without mesh. Start exercising lightly and slowly progress over a couple of weeks. By 8 weeks your tissues will likely be 70-75% healed but the important thing to remember is to not suddenly increase your activities.
