7 to 10 days usually: Applying an ice pack to the affected area can provide temporary relief and decrease swelling. It's safe to take Acetaminophen for pain, and, assuming you aren't allergic to aspirin, Ibuprofen and naproxen are also safe & effective. If you still have headache after 3 days or if you get new symptoms, please get medical care. Dr. Anne.
