Medical check up: A medical examination by your physician would be a good idea as the numbness implies possible injury to one of the intercostal nerves. You may also have broken a rib in that area. Usually rib fracturte causes pain which will be worse on taking a deep breath. I would suggest a medical exam and possibly X-rays on your Rib/s where you are hurting or have a bruised area/numbness areas.
