Breath depth: Breathing depth is controlled by brain as it senses blood oxygen and CO2. So if O2 goes up it will slow breathing rate and depth and if CO2 goes up it increases both. To demonstrate this put a paper bag over your mouth and breath In and out into the bag. Rate and depth go up. Being quiet and relaxed will slow breathing. So if paying attention it may seem you "forgot" to breath. You did not.
