A member asked:

For the past few weeks my upper lip area has been very tight and when talking, laughing or smiling, it has been pushing hard against my upper jaw. over time will this remodel my upper jaw making it less protruding? continuous pressure changes bone?

Minimally? yet also: unlikely enough to ever be noticeable. Recurring pressures on bone do alter structure & strength very slowly over time, usually to make the bone stronger so as to resist the pressure, Very early in life, before bone shape has fully evolved & solidified, variations in use have much larger responses. By teenage & especially young adult ages, the bone structure is largely set & stable.

Upper lip: The question is what is causing such tightness in the upper lip. Is it due to excessive muscle tension from stress or is it due to pathologic changes in connective tissue as is found in scleroderma? I don't think that it's enough to affect bone structure though. Have your physician examine you to rule out muscle pathology and if stress is felt to be the problem stress management therapy will help.
