A member asked:

I had a urinary tract infection and my doctor told me to avoid eating salty foods. i would like to know how salty foods cause urinary tract infection?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Not the cause: Salty foods are not the cause of the UTI, but during treatment we encourage increased fluids to help flush out the bladder and decreased caffeine/salt (those can irritate the bladder) while taking antibiotics.
