Pain Relief: Certainly the cough syrup helped your pain as it is a narcotic which is a pain reliever as well. Wether or not narcotic pain medication is appropriate for use for your jaw pain should be discussed with your physician or a pain specialist. There are many modalities that can be used for chronic pain, not just narcotics.

Sure it does...: .. it's a narcotic, and narcotics will relieve pain. Problem is, you can't take them forever and they are addictive. Have you been evaluated by an oral surgeon for your injury? That's the place you should start.

Of course: Promethazine also used to treat nausea and vomiting or pain after surgery. It is also used as a sedative or sleep aid. Ask your doctor for more information.

TMJ: Sounds like a TMJ problem. See an oral surgeon. If TMJ, consider seeing a TMJ expert.
