A member asked:

I fell off a horse yesterday and had extreme lower left back pain but no bruising and now the top layer of skin is numb so what is causing this numbness?

Nerve trauma: The numbness may be due to traumatic injury to the nerves that provide sensation to the skin, which arise from the spine. An X-ray would help exclude any traumatic fracture that may be affecting these nerves. Thankfully nerves do heal over time.
