Depends on exam: Children tend to develop and tolerate much higher fevers than adults. Fevers can be caused by both viruses and bacteria, and the degree of fever can vary widely in the face of very serious infections. It is more important to look at the overall symptom package. If your child looks very ill (lethargic, unresponsive, uncontrolled vomiting, etc), immediate evaluation is warranted regardless of degree
