Nerve damage?: I'm very concerned about your statement that there is no nerve damage. One of the major risks of thyroid surgery is injury to the recurrent laryngeal nerve, which is the nerve to your voice box. Even if the nerve appears to be intact or is intact, it could still be weak causing a breathy voice. Your lack of a voice could also be from swelling just from the breathing tube. It could take weeks.
