Possibly: As you may know the ESR is a indirect measure of inflammation. It is very vague. Elevation can certainly occur in the midst of any acute infection. For this reason I would not usually order this test in that setting. Now that has been proven abnormal it needs to be rechecked shortly to demonstrate that it is normal, then you can rest easy that it was part of the viral process
