Had appendix removed a week ago. recovering ok but having gas and a lot of diarrhea. is this normal after laparoscopic appendectomy?

Yes it is: yes it is normal. make sure you eat yogurt, and banana, and apply heat pad to the abdomen.most likely the diarrhea secondary to the antibiotic use after surgery, the gas is normal, most likely related to the pain medication. so far everything you described is normal.
