My 3week old breastfed baby has green poop. i have been taking antibiotics for mastitis, could it be a reaction and should i stop taking them? thanks

Green is ok: Hello. Green stool color for a neonate is still considered normal. Stool colors can range from yellow (like mustard) to green, brown or even gray at times. Colors of concern would be red, black (indicative of blood), or white (liver problem). As long as you don't see the latter colors, your baby's stools are fine.

Normal variation: The main agent adding color to the poo is the material made by the liver called bile. It starts out a dark green and goes thru the yellows to brown depending on the influences of various factors in the intestines. Rapid transit thru the system, as may occur with diarrhea or breast feeding may have a greenish yellow or yellow appearance. The slower, more likely browner.I'd ignore it.
