Common problem: 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer at some time in their life. When detected early, it is successfully treatable, so public awareness is an important first step. Self exam, regular check ups with a physician, and mammograms beginning at age 40 years of age ( for the average risk woman) are well established preventative measures.

High cure rate: This is probably because the cure rate is so high that there are millions of breast cancer survivors and because early diagnosis is important to improve survival and decrease the severity of treatment.
