Something is wrong: but cannot say in your particular case, but generally, "barely carries my weight" does NOT improve with continually walking. Stiffness does and that is a function of the inflammatory fluid in the knee. Besides aleve (naproxen) and an acewrap, there's lots orthopedics can do.

Varies: The two most common causes would typically some type of meniscal pathology, most commonly a tear; or an area of your knee with chondromalacia. There are other possibilities as well. An MRI may be helpful in determining the diagnosis, don't hesitate to be seen.
