Yes: Hepatitis b can be cleared spontaneously particularly in the acute phase. Also there are medications that can help to clear a chronic infection.

Rare: But possible i just read about such a case but still very rare. This is not my field so please enquire by a specialist in the field. No question the progress made in treating the condition is fabulous. Nobody should die from this condition, not anymore!

Hepatitis B: Yes, i think 80% of hepatitis b infections are cleared spontaneously and do not turn into chronic active infections.

Family practice : Once you have had hepatitis the virus is usually self limiting however you will always have antibodies against these viruses detectable by blood testing. Hepatitis c may remain for a very long time. It can cause cirrhosis and liver failure if left untreated. It is treatable and can be eliminated. Some people do not tolerate treatment and is not 100 per cent but worth the try.

The virus, yes, but: The viral antigens can be cleared from the body but evidence of the infection remains behind in the form of antibody to the surface antigen (anti-hbs) [which is also resent in those who have received hbv vaccine]. Carriers remain hbsag (+) for 6 mo or more & will have chronic hepatitis b, elevated liver enzyme alt, & liver inflammation.
