Depression: I understand your concern. I commend you for goal of education, leaving home and attending college. Possibly, Stresses of relationship with parents, siblings, old friends, past unresolved feelings and conflicts had been depressing before coming to college. Going home makes you aware of those depressed feelings. It can also be due to feeling satisfaction in present college life. See a Therapist.

Goal oriented: Happy to hear you are pursuing higher educational goals! It's also excellent that you are able to identify triggers for your affective dysregulation - particularly being home. I strongly recommend engaging in therapy and exploring the potential reasons for this difference in mood. It could be related to interpersonal issues with parents, family, siblings etc..

Underlying issues..: There are issues from home that cause you distress. Try to understand what the depression is about since you take a part of this with you no matter where you are. Great that you're happy at college. Why not talk to a therapist at your school health center to explore what happens when you're home. You'll build confidence by understanding what happens when you go home. Hope this helps. All the best.
