Deficit in Dopamine: People with attention deficit disorder, has decreased prefrontal cortex (pfc) activity, specifically in the infer-orbital area of the brain. This part of the brain serves as the executive function (ceo). The main neurotransmitter in is dopamine. Stimulants, stimulate the release of Dopamine from neurons in the pfc. Thus, giving the person who has add, more control, focus, and concentration.

Great question.: Simplistically, persons with adhd have too little activity in certain brain pathways (dopamine-da and norepinephrine-ne) to override extraneous distractions and properly attend to mundane tasks. Hence the adhd need for stimulation and novelty. Stimulants via several modes increase da and ne activity (but not levels). I also test neurotransmitters, modify diet, and use targeted Amino Acid rx.
