Possibly: That might be a fracture. You should probably get into see your doctor for examination and a possible chest x-ray. That could be from other more serious things than a fracture.

Severe coughing: It is possible to crack a rib with very severe coughing. Get an appointment with your md and possibly a chest xray to rub out possible fracture.

Let me explain: To get red of that cough you have to use the right antibiotic, add to it some decongestant and breathing treatment, as far the lump it could be broken rib or it could costochondritis, x-ray will be able to show if the rib broken. It is not usual to pain in the ribs when you that sever cough. Good luck.
