Pain, popping: Meniscus tears can cause pain, swelling, and mechanical symptoms (locking, popping, etc). The symptoms are often aggravated by activities such as bending, squatting, and pivoting. Arthroscopy is often recommend if the problem is not responding to nonoperative treatment.

Knee pain: Pain or clicking may be a sign of a medial meniscal tear. These often do well with rehabilitation and do not necessarily need surgery unless there is locking, it is very painful or you have significant limitation in function.
