See a Dermatologist : See a dermatologist for the treatment who can use skin lightener cream. It contain an active ingredient or combination of ingredients that reduces the amount of melanin in the skin where it is applied.
The most widely used ingredient in skin lighteners sold in the U.S. Is hydroquinone.

Meds: Many patients do well with over the counter benzoyl peroxide or salicylic acid preparations. Some patients require topical or oral antibiotics or retinoids as well. If the over the counter meds alone don't control your acne after a month of daily use, see a doctor for additional treatment options. It is important to be persistent, and some patients 'get worse before they get better'.

Acne Scars: You can use creams that have hydroquinone in them to help lighten the discoloration or have your face lasered. Check with your dermatologist for treatment options according to your severity. It's important you stay out of the sun and use a moisturizer with sunscreen to prevent further discoloration of your face. Good Luck

Not sure: This can't be diagnosed with the information that is available. A history, physical examination & other studies may be needed to determine cause/causes.

21st century Rx: You deserve to be free of acne if that is your wish. I start with topical Clindamycin plus either benzoyl peroxide if there are few blackheads or a retinoic acid derivative if there are many. The oral contraceptive pill can clear up acne if a woman can and want to use it. Failing, a systemic antibiotic right for the person usually works, and dermatologists have the big guns today.

Multiple options: IPL does a really nice job of lightening sun damage with no down time. It does require regular (every 3 months or so) treatments to maintain results. Some chemical peels can lighten sun damage. Fractionated laser does a really nice job of lightening pigmentary issues, but does require some downtime. Hydroquinone and lightening creams are other options.
