Suddenly today i felt pain on the back of my knee when i looked it was a black and blue bruise. it is sore. i can't remember hitting anything.

Blood vessel broke: While it certainly sounds as if there was a blood vessel that broke causing pain- the area being black and blue suggests that the event did not happen at the moment you say you felt pain and looked down. The color black or blue would not have appeared immediately but rather after at least several days following the incident.
