Is there a way to be easily tested for renal hypertension as a possible cause of secondary htn? why is it such an involved procedure?

Secondary htn: There are many possible causes of secondary hypertension and your physician has come to the conclusion that you most likely have renal artery stenosis. The imaging to diagnose this condition is fairly involved but will give your physician a definitive answer. It is very important to diagnose this condition as it can help with blood pressure management in the long term.

Renal HTN testing: Many causes of renal HTN. First test is to measure renal function. Next measure you dietary intake for Na and K. High Na is major cause or HTN with decreased renal function. Best way is to do 24 hr urine Na and K. Next need renal imaging to see if one kidney bigger than other. Finally if HTN need renal arteriogram. So work with your team. I specialize in this an happy to give 2nd opinion.
