Pink eye: Pink eye or conjunctivitis in children can be caused by bacterial or viral infections. Pink eyes can also be caused by allergies. Over the counter eye drops can help constrict blood vessels but do not help with bacterial infection.

Define "help": Clear eye drops can provide some comfort to the eye irritation that accompanies pinkeye.They do not kill the germs causing it, but could have some benefit. Since some pinkeye is just viral many of the antibiotic drops prescribed for the problem have no more effect than clear eye drops.
