A member asked:

Explain how sodium chloride treats anterior basement membrane dystrophy. i also have severe dry eyes and blurred vision in one eye.

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Dehydration: Because the ABMD has faulty epithelium to basement membrane adherence, the hypertonic NaCl draws out water from the corneal epithelium so as to keep it from loosing its tight contact to the underlying basement membrane. This in turn helps to lessen the symptoms of pain when the epithelium lifts off.
