Great question: Nuvaring is heat activated. This is the mechanism that causes it to work when inserted into the vagina. It is important during manufacturing and shipping that it not be overheated. In your house it is safe not to refrigerate it. It is just important that is stay at a normal temperature. For example - you would not want to leave it out in the car during the hot summer.
